Everything depends on what it says yes to. Commitments made through response lead to discovery; commitments made from the mind lead to grinding through the wrong thing.

What if I only have Gate 29 or Gate 46?

Then it is a hanging gate, half of the channel. The Channel of Discovery completes whenever a transiting planet or another person activates the other gate, for as long as that lasts.
