What do I need to calculate my Human Design chart?

Your birth date, your birth time and the city you were born in. Birth time matters more than people expect: a few hours can change your profile lines and sometimes your authority, so a birth certificate is worth checking.

What if I do not know my birth time?

You can still calculate a chart. Tick the box on the form and we use midday. Your centres and channels will usually still be right, but your profile lines and authority may be wrong, so treat those two with caution until you find the exact time.

Why does my chart need my birth city?

Only to work out the timezone, so your birth time can be converted to the exact moment in universal time. Human Design gates come from the position of the planets at one instant, so unlike astrological houses there is no latitude or longitude involved.

What is the difference between a Human Design chart and a birth chart?

An astrology birth chart maps planets into signs and houses. A Human Design chart maps them onto 64 gates and nine centres, and it is calculated twice: once at birth for your conscious Personality and once about three months before birth for your unconscious Design. The two systems share the same astronomy and do very different things with it.

What are defined and undefined centres?

A defined centre is connected by a complete channel and works consistently, whatever is going on around you. An undefined or open centre has no fixed way of working and amplifies whatever is nearby, which is where most conditioning comes from and where you eventually become wise.

How do I read my Human Design chart?

Start with your type and strategy, because that is how you are built to engage with anything. Then your authority, which is how to make decisions. Then look at which centres are defined and which are open. Gates, channels and the incarnation cross are worth exploring once those three are familiar.

Does my Human Design chart change over time?

Your chart itself never changes, because it is fixed to the moment you were born. What changes is the sky. Planets keep transiting the same 64 gates and can temporarily complete channels in your chart, which is why some days feel very different from others.

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

Use noon. It minimises the average error, and the calculator will tell you rather than silently defaulting. Be aware that an unknown time can produce a wrong type when a gate sits near a boundary.

Birth time matters more here than in most systems. The design side of a chart is calculated roughly 88 solar degrees before birth, so an hour of error can move gates and sometimes change the type outright. If you do not know your time, noon is the usual convention because it minimises the average error.

The calculation runs on our own Swiss Ephemeris backend, resolving the timezone from the birthplace rather than from the device, so a chart cast for someone born abroad is not quietly shifted by hours.
