The Spleen Center

The Spleen is the oldest awareness centre, dealing in survival, instinct and the fears that come with them. It speaks once, quietly, in the present moment.

When it is defined

  • A defined Spleen has consistent instinct and a reliable sense of what is healthy. The information arrives in the moment and does not repeat itself, which is why it is so easy to talk yourself out of.
  • It also carries a consistent feeling of wellbeing that people nearby borrow.

When it is open

  • An open Spleen amplifies fear and has no consistent read on health. It is also the centre most associated with holding on: to relationships, jobs and situations that are not good for you, because letting go feels like danger.
  • The fear is not yours and does not need obeying. Recognising that is most of the work.

The not-self question

Am I holding on to something, or someone, that is not good for me?

Questions

What does an open Spleen mean?

You have no consistent instinct or sense of wellbeing, and you amplify the fears around you. The common pattern is holding on to things past the point they are good for you.

Why do I feel anxious with an undefined Spleen?

The Spleen deals in survival fear, and an open one amplifies whatever fear is nearby. Much of what feels like your anxiety was picked up from your environment.
