The Heart Center

The Heart, sometimes called the Ego or Will centre, is the smallest centre and the source of willpower, worth and promises.

When it is defined

  • A defined Heart has consistent willpower, though it works in bursts and needs genuine rest between them. Promises can be made and kept, because the will to keep them is actually there.
  • The strength is a real sense of self-worth that does not need proving.

When it is open

  • An open Heart has no consistent willpower, and the pressure is to prove worth anyway. This is the centre behind overcommitting, over-promising and taking on things to demonstrate you are enough.
  • The classic guidance is to be careful with promises, because an open Heart makes them under pressure and then has no reliable will to deliver on them.

What does an undefined Heart centre mean?

You have no consistent willpower and feel pressure to prove your worth. Around seven in ten people have an open Heart, so the feeling of needing to prove yourself is close to universal.

Why do I overcommit?

An open Heart makes promises under the pressure to prove worth, without consistent willpower behind them. Slowing down before committing is the practical correction.
