The Head Center

The Head is a pressure centre. It generates the pressure to think, and the questions that come with it, but it does not answer anything.

When it is defined

  • A defined Head produces a consistent kind of inspiration and a fixed way of being pressured to think. The questions arrive reliably and in a recognisable flavour.
  • It also means you are pressuring other people to think, whether or not you intend to. People with an open Head pick that up from you and often mistake it for their own urgency.

When it is open

  • An open Head amplifies whatever mental pressure is nearby. You end up carrying questions that were never yours: things you feel obliged to resolve simply because you were near somebody thinking about them.
  • The correction is not to stop thinking. It is to notice that most of the questions do not need answering, and that trying to answer all of them is what makes an open Head exhausting.

The not-self question

Am I trying to answer questions that do not matter to me?

Questions

What does an open Head centre mean?

It means you have no fixed way of being inspired or pressured to think, so you amplify the mental pressure around you. Most of the questions you feel driven to resolve arrived from somebody else.

Is a defined Head better than an open one?

No. Defined means consistent, not better. An open Head is more impressionable but eventually becomes far wiser about which questions actually deserve attention.
