Self-Projected Authority

You hear your own direction by speaking it. The answer is in your voice rather than in your head, so it needs somebody to talk to.

How to use it

  • Self-Projected authority runs through identity and direction. The decision is not felt in the body, it is heard when you say it aloud.
  • The listener matters and their opinion does not. You need somebody who will let you talk without steering, which is a rarer thing than it sounds.
  • What you are listening for is your own tone, and whether the words sound like you when they come out.

Common mistakes

  • Deciding silently, which removes the mechanism entirely
  • Talking to somebody who advises rather than listens
  • Mistaking the listener's opinion for your own clarity

The practice

Find two or three people who can hear you out without offering solutions, and talk decisions through with them. You are using them as a sounding board in the literal sense.

Questions

Do I need another person to use Self-Projected authority?

Effectively yes. The answer surfaces in your own voice, so you need somebody to speak to. A voice recording works for some people, but a patient listener who does not advise works better.
